This new PXXO cuvée from Planteray (formerly Plantation Rum), crafted by Master Blender Alexandre Gabriel, was specially designed with mixology in mind. The blend undergoes a final maturation in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, which imparts inviting notes of roasted nuts and dark fruit preserves. When combined with simple syrup, a dash of Angostura bitters, and a splash of orange bitters—with or without a touch of vermouth—it creates a refreshingly rich cocktail that’s perfect for summer sipping.
Elaboration:
This special edition is a reimagining of the iconic Planteray XO 20th Anniversary cuvée, crafted to celebrate Alexandre Gabriel’s 20 years as Master Blender at Maison Ferrand. It’s a blend of several Barbadian rums aged between 12 and 20 years. The rums are first matured in bourbon barrels in Barbados, then undergo additional aging in former Cognac casks in the Charente region of France. To finish, the blend is refined in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, adding luscious layers of richness and depth. The result is a luxurious and beautifully balanced rum, honoring two decades of blending expertise.
Rhum Plantation Becomes Rhum Planteray—But the Craftsmanship Remains Unchanged
Under the direction of Master Blender Alexandre Gabriel, this singular House embraces a truly original approach—bringing together two distinct traditions and cultures to create a groundbreaking range of rums.
Whether blends or vintage releases, every expression benefits from a unique ageing process known as double ageing. Sourced from some of the finest distilleries in the Caribbean, these rums are first aged in tropical conditions before being shipped to the Charente region of France. There, they undergo a secondary maturation in Ferrand Cognac barrels, adding remarkable depth and complexity to the final spirit.
