The estate and the wine |
A rising star in Chianti, Cigliano di Sopra is an exciting project that began in 2018, driven by young winemakers Maddalena Fucile and Matteo Vaccari. This micro-production spans 7 hectares, divided into 11 parcels, predominantly planted with Sangiovese.
Having trained at the University of Florence and in Oregon—at the highly acclaimed Domaine de la Côte with Raj Parr and Sashi Moorman—the duo produces a focused range centered around a Chianti and single-parcel cuvées, all aged in Stockinger foudres. These are refined and distinctive wines, emphasizing fruit and character. |

Vinified with 60% whole clusters and aged in foudres, the 2022 Red Chianti Classico delivers an elegant expression of the appellation. It opens with fine aromas of macerated black and red fruits, highlighted by a hint of spice, licorice, and fresh leather. The silky, flavorful, and ripe structure melds with a refined juice and delicate tannins, which will continue to develop in the coming months. Rated 92/100 by the Selection Committee. |
