The estate and the wine
The estate and the wine Azienda Agricola Cupano is a hidden Italian gem, spanning just 7 hectares, surrounded by woodlands and olive trees. For 30 years, it was brought to prominence by Lionel Cousin and Ornella Tondin, and today, it continues its legacy under Andrea Polidoro.

Inspired by the Burgundian practices of Henri Jayer, the estate embraces biodynamic farming and a winemaking approach that honours the essence of the grape. Located on the western side of Montalcino, its vineyards benefit from sandy, clay, and pebble-rich soils that allow Sangiovese to achieve its fullest expression of flavour.

Since its inaugural vintage in 2000, the estate’s philosophy has remained steadfast: fermentation and ageing on fine lees in Burgundian barrels, the use of indigenous yeasts, gentle extraction, and no filtration.

The result is a delicate, refined style with a distinctly French influence—a hallmark that has made this sought-after estate a favourite among wine connoisseurs.
Wine Defined by delicate notes of cedar and stone fruit, the 2019 Red Brunello di Montalcino is a wine of remarkable refinement, combining precision with firmness. Its balance is impeccable, supported by fine, harmonious tannins. A superb Brunello, perfect for enjoying now or cellaring for up to 10 years. Rated 94/100 by the Selection Committee.
Vinification Hand harvested. Vinification with indigenous yeasts. Aged for 36 months in oak barrels.
