AWARDS

A wine rated 94-95/100 by our Committee!

Wine:

The 2023 Red Beaujolais-Villages Cuvée Jean Baptiste rivals a Cru from Beaujolais and significantly exceeds the standards of its appellation. Vinified exclusively in concrete vats without any oak influence, it boasts radiant fruit—pure and fresh Gamay with notes of stone fruit and a hint of black pepper. The palate is exceptionally well-balanced, fine, and velvety, with tannins that blend seamlessly between silk and velvet. This wine showcases all the elegance of a truly great Gamay! Undeniably a wine for aging, it’s a remarkable cuvée that deserves to be patiently cellared. Rated 94-95/100 by the Selection Committee.

Vinification:

Hand harvested from old vines planted in 1941 and 1948, 100% de-stemmed, long maceration, aged for 12 months in barrels on lees for 1/3 of the wine and in vats for 2/3 of the wine.

Certified organic wine.

Color:

Bright, intense red with violet highlights.

Nose:

Aromas of pit fruit with hints of black pepper.

Palate:

Delicate and velvety with beautifully ripe fruity flavors, this wine releases a pure, fresh taste with great balance and silky tannins.

Temperature:

Serve between 14 and 16°C.

Food and wine pairing:

Homemade pâté en croûte, brioche sausage with Madeira sauce, roast kid.

Cellar aging:

From now until 2034, and even longer for enthusiasts.

Nestled in the heart of Beaujolais on the steep and impressive Perréon vineyard, Domaine de La Madone is a family-owned estate that produces exceptional wines thanks to the talent of Bruno, Olivier, and Frédéric Bererd.

Their heroic organic viticulture yields sincere and striking wines, crafted with precision through cuvée aging and Burgundy-style vinification employed by the three brothers. Their humility is in stark contrast to the quality of their wines, which are offered at very attractive prices.

Notably, their Jean-Baptiste cuvée, produced only in the best vintages, surpasses all standards of its appellation. This wine is built for aging and rewards patience, as evidenced by the 2009 vintage, which scored a perfect 100/100 during a tasting six years later...
