Wine:

Bordering the Clos Vougeot, the 2018 White Vougeot 1er Cru Le Clos Blanc de Vougeot Monopole comes from a white vineyard planted amidst Pinot Noir vines by the Cîteaux monks nine centuries ago. Spanning 3 hectares, this vineyard primarily consists of Chardonnay (95%), blended with Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc, producing an extraordinary wine aged in barrels with a third new oak. The result matches its rarity: exceptional. It offers a nose with notes of linden and lemon, and a palate of very pure flavors, marked by significant tension and freshness. A refined wine, firm and chalky on the finish, with discreet aging. Rated 94/100 by RVF.

Vinification:

Hand-picked on August 29 and 30, 2018 (leaf days). Whole bunch pneumatic pressing for 2h30. Settling for 12 hours. Fermentation starts in stainless steel tanks and ends in barrels. Aged 6 months in barrels, 30% of which are new (origin of wood: Allier, Cîteaux and Centre France) and 2 months in stainless-steel vats. 2 batonnages per month on fruit day until December on a rising moon. Light fining with bentonite and light filtration. Bottling: April 21, 2020 for magnums (leaf day), April 22, 2020 for jeroboams (leaf day) and April 30 and May 4, 2020 for bottles (leaf and root days).
Limited edition of 17,768 bottles, 1,200 magnums and 200 jeroboams.
