Wine:
The 2022 Red Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru comes from the upper section of the Clos, where shallow soils at 260 meters altitude shape its distinct character. This is a sublime wine—both concentrated and beautifully ripe, with remarkable finesse. The oak aging enhances depth and structure without overpowering the wine, while the elegant tannins and complex aromas bring everything into perfect balance. Rated 98/100 by the Selection Committee.Vinification:
Hand harvested. 0.50 ha of vines planted in 1982 at an altitude of 260 m, with shallow gravel and limestone soil. Cold pre-fermentation maceration and vatting for a fortnight. Aged in barrels for 14 to 16 months, of which 40 to 50% are new.
Temperature:
Serve between 14 and 16°C in a large glass.Food and wine pairing:
Veal chop with morel mushrooms, tournedos Rossini, beef cheek confit with pinot noir, roast guinea fowl, matured farmhouse Saint-Nectaire cheese from Cîteaux Abbey.Cellar aging:
From now until 2040.Largely under the radar but closely followed by our sommelier Christian Martray, Estate Castagnier crafts wines that truly reflect their Burgundian origins. Jérôme Castagnier meticulously tends to some of the region’s most prestigious terroirs—Gevrey-Chambertin, Morey-Saint-Denis, Chambolle-Musigny, and Vougeot—with unwavering dedication. His approach blends biodynamic-inspired practices with traditional barrel aging, incorporating a careful proportion of new oak to enhance complexity while preserving the purity of each cru.
