Wine:

True to its legendary smoothness, the 2019 Red Saumur-Champigny Les Poyeux captures the supple, silky feel of its clay-sandy terroir while embracing the richness of the vintage. It unfolds with a juicy, fleshy texture and beautifully refined aromas. Sourced from a nearly 3-hectare parcel facing the estate on a gentle slope, this wine still holds firm tannins, suggesting it will benefit from another two to three years of aging before reaching its full potential.

Vinification:

Hand harvested. A plot of almost 3 hectares, facing the estate, on a gentle slope that offers a rare terroir in the Saumur-Champigny appellation, combining clay and draining aeolian sand. Gentle vinification with a minimalist approach. Aged for more than 2 years in barrels and aged in bottles for several years in the heart of the tufa cellars, seven metres underground.

Certified organic wine.

Temperature:

Serve between 14 and 16°C in a large glass.

Food and wine pairing:

Salt-crusted veal square, spiced roast duckling, herb-crusted prime rib, green pepper duck aiguillettes, lamb tagine with prunes.

Cellar aging:

From today until 2036, and even longer for enthusiasts.

An undisputed icon of the Loire Valley and awarded 2 stars by the French wine guide RVF, Clos Rougeard is inseparable from the legacy of Charly and Nady Foucault, the visionary artisans behind its success. Pioneers of organic farming as early as the 1970s, the Foucault brothers put the Loire Valley on the world stage, proving the exceptional potential of the Saumur-Champigny terroirs and their ability to produce truly great wines.

For wine lovers, Le Bourg, Le Clos, and Les Poyeux are legendary names—pure expressions of Cabernet Franc on soils of silica, limestone, and sand. Less well known but equally remarkable, a small-production White wine from just 1.5 hectares is crafted on Brézé’s prestigious limestone terroir.

Today, Clos Rougeard is owned by the Bouygues family, who uphold its legacy of excellence, ensuring its wines remain among the most sought-after in the world.
