Wine:

The 2022 Red Châteauneuf-du-Pape Julien Barrot highlights the purity of Grenache with an expressive nose of dark berries, spices, black olive, and wild herbs. Deep and layered, it unfolds with impressive volume, a velvety mid-palate, and well-integrated tannins. The vintage’s power is balanced by its refined structure, offering clarity and precision. A testament to Julien Barrot’s craftsmanship, this is a quintessential Châteauneuf-du-Pape. In Magnum format, it offers extended aging potential and a perfect choice for convivial gatherings. Rated 92/100 by RVF.

Vinification:

On red clay soils dominated by sand in the north-east of the appellation, the average age of the vines is over 65 years, with almost 50% of the Grenache being over a hundred years old. Hand-harvested, vinified in concrete tulip-shaped vats, de-stemmed of unripe stalks, macerated for more than 4 weeks. Aged in concrete tulip-shaped vats, tuns and demi-muids for 22 months.

Temperature:

Decant before serving between 14 and 16°C.

Food and wine pairing:

Seared rib of beef, grilled duck breast, leg of lamb with pepper sauce, Provençal-style beef stew, mature cheeses.

Cellar aging:

From now until 2030 and beyond for enthusiasts.

A hidden gem of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, praised by Best Sommelier in the World Olivier Poussier, Domaine La Barroche is celebrated for both the exceptional quality of its wines and its understated reputation.

Julien and Laetitia Barrot manage old vines, some over a century old, in the finest areas of the appellation, particularly in the northern sector near Rayas. Their dedication to freshness results in remarkable cuvées, available exclusively through allocation.

With small production volumes, aging in concrete tanks and large wooden vessels, and its singular focus on quality, this estate has become a highly sought-after name among wine enthusiasts and collectors.
