Wine:

A pure Syrah, the 2021 Red W.O. Cape Coast Born of Fire delivers all the attributes of its grape variety with great mastery. The smoky notes are very delicate, and the freshness is surprising and seductive on the nose as well as on the palate. This wine, which is a far cry from the stereotypes of the southern hemisphere, is made with great agility and care and will please everyone for its delicate and elegant tannins. A digestible ensemble that would blindside many tasters, who would see in it a beautiful Rhone syrah! The "Coup de Coeur" of the Committee noted 93/100.

Vinification:

The vines are located 40 kilometers from the ocean and benefit from the sea breeze. Hand harvested at the coolest time of the day. After 2 weeks of maceration and fermentation, the wine is transferred to 300 liter barrels. Aged for 12 months in barrels.

Dark red with carmine highlights.

Nose:

Complex and rich with aromas of fresh syrah underlined by fine smoky notes

Palate:

The palate is powerful, structured, long and full of red plum and black cherry flavors. A fresh and velvety tannic structure with delicate chocolate notes. A wine combining finesse and elegance.

Temperature:

Serve at 16 to 18°C.

Duck breast and tomatoes à la provençale, grilled lamb, aged camembert.

Julien Schaal is a striking newcomer to the Alsace wine scene, embracing independence and originality. In parallel to this success, he and his wife Sophie are exploring a new path in South Africa, baptized "Born of Fire". The young couple is working in the preserved landscape of the Cape to grow Chenin and Syrah organically and to create, as in their original terroir, and with the same degree of perfection, two full and fresh wines.

Carried by the cool climate, born less than 40 km from the Atlantic coast, on schist and limestone soils, these modern wines celebrate nature, freshness and escape.
