Our committee's review
"Mitjavile" wines inspire a near-mythical devotion. Enthusiasts from around the world rush to secure each new vintage upon release, often treating these bottles as prized collectibles.
What sets "Mitjavile" wines apart is a singular winemaking style that’s instantly recognizable, applied across all the terroirs they cultivate, from Tertre Roteboeuf to L’Aurage. These wines are powerful, richly textured, and irresistibly indulgent, even in their youth. While they may spark debate among some, most adore them—and a devoted few revere them. One thing is certain: "Mitjavile" wines never leave anyone indifferent.
Experience the unmistakable Mitjavile style with this selection of three exceptional vintages.
The 2021 red Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux L’Aurage benefits from a late-ripening terroir, where the grapes mature slowly—ideal conditions for the Merlot that makes up the majority of this cuvée. The result is a wine that is both delicate and aromatic, well-structured, and built for aging, while remaining fresh and balanced with a long-lasting finish. It can already be enjoyed for its freshness and fullness, or cellared for a decade or more.
The 2007 red Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux L’Aurage embodies everything one expects from a great Bordeaux with elegant maturation. The nose is irresistibly seductive, with notes of undergrowth, dried morel, truffle, dark chocolate, and stewed black fruits. The delicate, refined palate, shaped by time, reveals round, mature tannins, perfectly integrated, with a gently spiced finish. A beautiful bottle to pair with a veal chop and seasonal vegetables, for example.
The 2017 red Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux L’Aurage has reached full maturity, revealing a tender and silky texture, fully reflecting the style of the Right Bank. Its delicate aromas of cherry and blackberry, complemented by subtle toasted notes, and its round, supple tannins create a concentrated, well-balanced wine. Already ready to enjoy, it will continue to evolve beautifully through the end of this decade.
