Our committee's review
Clos de la Molénie is Bordeaux reimagined — expressive, honest, and bursting with life. It’s got the depth and seriousness you'd expect, but with a juicy, vibrant edge that speaks directly to how we like to drink today: fresher, more flavourful, and full of energy.
Created in 2015, the domaine is run biodynamically by Sylvain and Kim Destrieux on 25 hectares in Entre-deux-Mers. Everything here is thoughtful, from precise parcel selections to subtle ageing in amphora and barrel. Even the choice of Burgundy-shaped bottles says it all — this is Bordeaux with a fresh perspective, where fruit purity and terroir expression lead the way.
Clos de la Molénie perfectly embodies this new wave of winemakers: committed, thoughtful, and uncompromising — yet always focused on making wines that are a joy to drink. It’s not about making a statement; it’s about making bottles you’ll want to come back to, again and again.
A blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon from just one hectare of vines, the 2020 Bordeaux Supérieur Michelot Red is a wine that immediately charms. The fruit is beautifully ripe, with layers of black cherry, blackberry, and cassis wrapped in a juicy, expressive frame that’s both complex and approachable. Hints of spice add depth, while the subtle oak is seamlessly integrated, giving the wine a soft, rounded texture. It’s generous, fresh, and seriously drinkable — a Bordeaux made for pure enjoyment, whether you’re opening it now or holding onto it for a few more years.
With a 92-point score from Parker, this bottle is ready for its moment in the spotlight.
